Florida man with warrant accidentally calls police on himself

DC NEWSBy Casey Harper

Florida police say a man with an outstanding warrant accidentally “butt-dialed” 9-1-1, which led authorities straight to him.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says 21-year-old Derek Candelario “probably accidentally” dialed 9-1-1 Wednesday night by sitting on his phone while in a park near Lake Hamilton. Police responded to the call to find a surprised Candelario, who had an outstanding warrant for aggravated domestic violence.

“Deputies responded to the park assisting the Lake Hamilton Police Department regarding the 9-1-1 hang up call,” the Sheriff’s office said on Facebook. “When they arrived, they found Candelario (who was in the park after daylight hours—the park closes at dark) and he was immediately non-cooperative with deputies. Ultimately, he checked his cell phone and confirmed that he had dialed 9-1-1. Unfortunately for Candelario, he had an outstanding Polk County warrant for Aggravated Domestic Violence.”

Police arrested Candelario for the warrant and also charged him for resisting arrest without violence and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
