When a CNN panel was discussing the medical condition of Lamar Odom, the former Los Angeles Lakers NBA star who collapsed and was unresponsive Tuesday, the network’s controllers flashed the wrong face on the screen — LaMarcus Aldridge.

Well they got the first five letters right anyway.

All of which prompted this tweet:

The mistake didn’t go unnoticed.

The Lakers colors are either blue or yellow, while a black Jersey would represent the San Antonio Spurs — Aldridge’s team. It was no doubt an autofill problem… you type in a couple of letters and the computer guesses what you mean and fills in the rest.

But that didn’t appease CNN’s critics.  The parent tweet got lots of responses, including these.

And on that note, CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker suggested, tongue-in-cheek, a change in the network’s slogan from “The Most Trusted Name in News” to “Holy Crap, We’re All Gonna Die,” The New Yorker magazine reported.

“This exciting new slogan is just one piece of our over-all rebranding strategy,” Zucker said. “Going forward, we want CNN to be synonymous with the threat of imminent death.”

Keep up the great work, Jeff, and you’ll get there sooner than you think.
