In an attempt at humor, President Barack Obama offered rapper and potential future president Kanye West useless advice on what it’s like to run for President of the United States.
Obama was speaking at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in San Francisco on Saturday when he went off into his smug comedy routine. Jokes stemmed from West’s announcement at the MTV Video Music Awards in September that he plans to run for president in 2020.
Opening the event by mocking the GOP’s struggle to find a new House leader to replace John Boehner, Obama said, “You may have heard about this. Kanye is thinking about running for Speaker of the House.”
He warned West that he needs to follow three golden rules if he wants to become ‘Peezy,’ a nickname Obama joked that West has tagged POTUS with.
“First of all, you’ve got to spend a lot of time dealing with some strange characters who behave like they’re on a reality TV show,” Obama said, poking fun at the stars of “Keeping up with the Kardashians.”
“So you’ve just to be cool with that,” he added.
“This is a second important tip: saying that you have a beautiful, dark, twisted fantasy – that’s what known as ‘off-message’ in politics,” Obama said, referencing West’s fifth studio album. “You can’t say something like that.”
“And number three: do you really think that this country is gonna elect a black guy from the south side of Chicago with a funny name to be president of the United States?” Obama cracked. “That is crazy. That’s cray.”
Supporters reportedly paid up to $10,000 each for a ticket to see Kanye perform songs from his latest album Swish.
