Trey Gowdy opens can of whoop-a** on top Benghazi committee Dem Cummings in brutal 13-page letter

cummins-gowdyDon’t get on Rep. Trey Gowdy’s bad side — ever.

In response to the continuous sniping the South Carolina Republican has received as chairman of the Select Committee on Benghazi from the committee’s top ranking Democrat, Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, Gowdy let loose in a scathing 13-page letter.

Since the committee’s inception, Cummings has referred to the committee’s work as a witch hunt directed at former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, designed to stall her run for the White House.

Here’s a small sample of the tone:

Gowdy letter

The letter destroys assertions by Cummings that the committee has uncovered nothing new, and refers to the 1,500 emails that were previously withheld from the committee, one-third of which concerned Clinton confidante, Sidney Blumenthal.

“These messages should have been made public when the State Department released Secretary Clinton’s other self-selected records on Libya and Benghazi, but there was a clear decision at the time to withhold this information from the American people and the Committee,” reads the letter. “The State Department has now made these messages available, and the Committee intends to question Secretary Clinton about them during her appearance.”

The emails reveal that Blumenthal disclosed confidential information, including the name of a CIA source in Libya — information that Clinton kept on her non-secure private server.

“This information, the name of a human source, is some of the most protected information in our intelligence community, the release of which could jeopardize not only national security but also human lives,” Gowdy wrote.

“Armed with that information, Secretary Clinton forwarded the email to a colleague—debunking her claim that she never sent any classified information from her private email address,” Gowdy note

Senior writer for The Weekly Standard, Stephen Hayes, sent out a series of tweets on the information uncovered in the latest batch of emails.

Cortney O’Brien, deputy news editor at Townhall, sent a tweet that earned an avalanche of replies:

Clinton is scheduled to testify before the Benghazi committee on October 22. Given the latest batch of emails, that should be worth watching. Don’t forget the popcorn.
