Video: Alabama Dem. BLOODIES reporter for asking question

newsome-e1444157805569 An Alabama Democrat was caught red-handed, slapping a local TV reporter in the face on Tuesday, after being asked about allegations that he engaged in voter fraud.

District 2 Commissioner, Amos Newsome of Dothan, was arrested and charged with third-degree assault following a confrontation with the reporter, according to the Dothan Eagle.

Newsome is facing backlash after his former aides were convicted of voter fraud and, though he was not charged, his colleagues are demanding that he resign.

WTVY reporter Ken Curtis attempted to ask Newsome about the allegations after a city council meeting.

When Curtis asked the city councilman if he would consider resigning, Newsome lashed out, striking the reporter with his hand. The blow left Curtis with a bloodied cheek, according to the Eagle.

Newsome could face up to a year of confinement and a fine of up to $6,000 if convicted. Curtis plans to press charges.

Curtis told the Dothan Eagle that he did not believe he did anything wrong and the he is “just sorry Mr. Newsome felt it was necessary to do that.”

“I’m sure it has been a very stressful time for him,” Curtis said. “But, this is not about me. This is about freedom of the press. This is for the right we have to ask questions that the public has a right to know about.”
