Republican presidential contender Dr. Ben Carson has come under fire for comments he made on “Fox & Friends” about how he would have reacted if he was in the Oregon college classroom where nine Christians were massacred.
“I would not just stand there and let him shoot me. I would say, ‘Hey, guys, everybody attack him. He may shoot me, but he can’t get us all,'” he told the hosts Tuesday.
On Wednesday he spoke to Fox News’ Martha MacCallum and responded to critics who called his comments insensitive.
MacCallum asked Carson if he had to be more careful with how he words statements in light of his comments about not wanting a Muslim to become president and now this.
“We’re living in a culture now where you have a group of people who just sit there, they don’t try to listen to what you’re saying, they’re just trying to find a defect so that they can cause more division,” he said adding that they want to divide America into factions. “War on women, age wars, income wars, religious wars, race wars, you name it.”
He said he doesn’t believe Americans will fall for it anymore as they had in the past and he won’t change his approach to accommodate the people looking to cause division.
“I’m not gonna change and become a vanilla envelope that they can accept. They’re never gonna accept me because I don’t believe in political correctness,” he said.
Carson said his original statement was an easy to understand concept.
“If you know somebody’s gonna kill you, why would you sit there and wait for him to do it?” he asked.
