Well that didn’t take long.
It’s seems obvious that House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, the leading candidate to take the House reins from departing Speaker John Boehner, is already getting under Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton‘s skin.
McCarthy appeared on Fox News Tuesday and noted that the ongoing House select committee investigation of the Benghazi attacks is having a negative impact on Clinton’s campaign.
“Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right?” he said. “But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she’s untrustable.”

The comment seems to have rattled Clinton, who fired back Wednesday in an appearance with Al Sharpton on MSNBC, saying she finds McCarthy’s observation “deeply distressing.”
After all, as a Clinton, she’s not accustomed to being held accountable.
“I have to tell you, I find them deeply distressing,” she said about the comments. “I knew the ambassador that we lost in Benghazi. Along with him, we lost three other brave Americans who were representing us in a very dangerous part of the world.”
Though Clinton does not seem to find it distressing that there have been no answers for why they died, she did jump on the political opportunity to discredit the select committee investigating the attack.
“When I hear a statement like that, which demonstrates unequivocally that this was always meant to be a partisan political exercise,” she told Sharpton.
