DC SCANDAL: Angry congressman scared of Secret Service power after it leaked his personal info as retribution

jason-chaffetzHouse Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz blasted the U.S. Secret Service for revealing private information about him to the press, a move prompted by the Utah Republican’s criticisms of the agency.

“Some information that he might find embarrassing needs to get out,” Assistant Director Edward Lowery wrote in an email to another agency supervisor on March 31, according to The Washington Post. “Just to be fair.”

Two days later, a news website reported that the agency had rejected Chaffetz’s 2003 application to be a Secret Service agent.

The Post reported that the information was required by law top remain secret. It wasn’t until Wednesday that the Lowery email was made public, indicating who leaked the information.

Chaffetz was livid.

“It was a tactic designed to intimidate and embarrass me and frankly, it is intimidating,” Chaffetz said, according to TheBlaze. “It’s scary to think about all the possible dangers in having your personal information exposed.”

Chaffetz, however, said he would continue to do his work.

“The work of the committee … will continue,” he said. “I remain undeterred in conducting proper and rigorous oversight.”
