‘Sexy cop’ costume for girls gets mom fuming; and the company responds how?

Party-City-copsAn outraged mom is claiming Party City blocked her on Facebook after she posted an open letter expressing concern over a “sexy cop” Halloween costume.

Lin Kramer said she posted the letter drawing attention to police officer costumes being sold for boys and girls, saying she was “appalled” at how young girls were being depicted, according to Fox News.

She also criticized the retail chain for its “antiquated” views, pointing out that there are 16 occupation-themed costumes for boys on the company’s website, compared to just three for girls.

“While Halloween costumes are undoubtedly about ‘make-believe,’ it is unfathomable that toddler girls and boys who might be interested in dressing up as police officers are seeking to imagine themselves in the incongruent way your business apparently imagines them,” Kramer wrote.

The letter further stated:

“Toddler girls are not imagining and hoping that they will grow up to become a ‘sexy cop’ — which is clearly what your girl costume suggests; rather, young girls, just as young boys, see and admire their family members and neighbors offering service to their communities and delight in the idea of doing the same. I am absolutely appalled that your business reinterprets girls’ innocent and well-intentioned dreams into this costume.”

After initially responding to the letter and thanking her for the feedback, Kramer said Party City later deleted it and blocked her from its Facebook page.

Party City issued a statement to the Huffington Post saying “nothing we carry is meant to be offensive and we supply Halloween costumes suitable for all styles, tastes, and budgets.”

We’re doomed’: Obama said something REALLY ‘chilling’ in UN address

“We expect parents to be as involved in their children’s costume selections as they are in selecting their everyday wardrobe, and we encourage parents to shop with their children,” the retailer read. “We supply the types of products that our customers, and specifically parents, demand, and the Girls Cop Costume mentioned by Ms. Lin Kramer is one of our most popular costumes.”

Saying they “understand this is a sensitive issue,” the retail chain added: “If Ms. Lin Kramer would like to speak directly with a Party City team member, she’s welcome to contact us and we hope to connect with her soon.”

Which sounds like a flip of “don’t call us, we’ll call you.”
