‘This interview is over’: Carson’s interview cut after CNN’s Jake Tapper dogs him mercilessly

Things got so testy on the set of CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday between host Jake Tapper and Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson that a Carson staffer pulled the plug.

“This interview is over,” an off-camera person, reportedly a Carson staffer said.

Tapper hounded Carson on the candidate’s statement to NBC News host Chuck Todd last week that he would not support a Muslim in the White House.

Carson told Tapper that he couldn’t support a presidential candidate “if they’re not willing to reject Sharia” in favor of the Constitution and American values.

“I don’t assume that because somebody’s Muslim that they would put their religion ahead of the U.S. Constitution,” Tapper shot back.

“I think the statement stands,” Carson said. “Is it possible that maybe the media thinks it’s a bigger deal than the American people do? Because American people, the majority of them, agree and they understand exactly what I’m saying.”

Tapper then suggested that those Americans who side with Cardson don’t believe Muslims can be patriotic.

“Of course Muslims can be patriotic,” Carson said, but added that Muslims need to “reject the tenets of Islam” to be a suitable presidential candidate.

Tapper pushed further.

“I think one of the things is that you are a member of a church that there’s a lot of misinformation about, the Seventh Day Adventist Church, you’re an African-American,” Tapper said. “You know what it is like for people to make false assumptions about you and you seem to be doing the same thing with Muslims.”

“In what way am I making false assumptions about them?” Carson asked.

Tapper continued pushing on what he thought was Carson’s assumption that Muslims would place religion ahead of country.

“I’m assuming that if you accept all the tenets of Islam that you would have a very difficult time abiding under the Constitution of the United States,” Carson said.

At that point, a voice could be heard calling an end to the interview.

“OK, thank you, Dr. Carson,” Tapper said. “I appreciate it.”
