Caring teen suspended for saving blind kid from bully; zero tolerance strikes again

Cody PinesA heroic California high school student, who saved a blind classmate from a bully, has learned that no good deed goes unpunished.

The scene, captured on video by a bystander at Huntington Beach High School, shows the hero student rushing in and punching a bully who was hitting the blind student in the head and knocking him to the ground with one punch.

The bully was left lying on the ground bleeding while the hero, identified by the New York Daily News as Cody Pines, attended to the blind student to see if he was ok.

As he checked on the victim, Pines looked back at the bully, identified by the News as Noah, and said “You trying to jump a f***ing blind kid, bro? What the f*** is your problem?”

The young good Samaritan walked away holding the blind boy, identified by the News as Austin, and looked again at the attacker saying “I swear to God, if you f*** with this kid again, I will f*** you up.”

But instead of being praised by the school for his actions, the teen finds himself suspended and kicked off the school football team.

The school’s zero-tolerance policy which, like all zero-tolerance policies, ridiculously does not take circumstances into consideration and does not allow an exception for any violence.

“The school is now responding to this isolated incident by interviewing students and witnesses to determine exactly what happened,” the school district wrote in a statement, according to the News. “Additionally, the school is working with local authorities to define the appropriate actions necessary once all of the information is collected.

“Huntington Beach High School firmly believes that all students are afforded an opportunity to learn in a safe and secure environment. Because of this, safety is the highest priority,’ the statement continued. “Huntington Beach High School has a very strong anti-bullying code of conduct and will not condone this type of behavior from any student.”

According to Huntington Beach Police, Noah was arrested Friday.

Speaking to Fox LA, Pines said “When you punch a blind kid, that’s what made me so mad. I kinda regretted it but I kinda didn’t because if I didn’t Austin would’ve been more hurt.”

Pines’ grandmother, Teresa White, wrote on Facebook that she is happy with her grandson’s actions, saying she is “proud of our grandson for standing up for that young man.”

“Cody is a very caring and compassionate guy,” she added.

Pines, however, regrets that Noah was arrested.

“I don’t want to ruin his life,” he said, but he hopes the incident helps Noah in school.

“I hope everyone hangs out with him now and shows him love because Austin deserves it,” he told Fox LA. “He’s such a cool kid.”

A petition has been started online to get Pines back in school and reinstated on the football team.
