Fox News’ O’Reilly warns Trump to stay away from Twitter; Trump fans go on the attack

Republican front-runner Donald Trump reignited his feud with Fox News this week when he declared a boycott on doing any shows on the network, prompting Bill O’Reilly to offer the real estate tycoon’s campaign team some advice:

Keep their candidate away from Twitter.

O’Reilly appeared on ABC’s “LIVE! with Kelly and Michael” on Thursday to plug his new book, “Killing Reagan,” and was asked about Trump’s latest beef with Fox News.

“The worst thing that ever happened to Donald Trump’s life was he learned how to tweet,” O’Reilly said. “That was the worst thing.”

“What should happen is, the people who love and cherish Donald Trump should, after 9 at night, handcuff him so he can’t do that,” he added.

For the record, Megyn Kelly’s show comes on at 9 p.m.

Saying he was acting out of “tough love,” the Fox News host said Trump needs to learn how to let insults go and focus on being more presidential.

It’s on! Fox News fires back at Trump ‘boycott’; fans take sides

“If Donald Trump wants to be president, all right, he has to now pivot and start to get serious,” O’Reilly said. “So if somebody says, ‘I don’t like your hair,’ he ignores that and says, ‘Here’s how I’m going to solve the economy, here’s how I’m going to solve foreign policy problems.’”

Trump has yet to respond to O’Reilly’s tough love, but plenty of his supporters have weighed in on social media and it’s probably a good thing that O’Reilly doesn’t spend much time on the “machines.”

Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
