A 38-year-old Florida man brought the term “stupid criminal” to a whole new level by bringing a loaded gun with him to meet his probation officer.
What’s worse, the hapless hoodlum, Christopher John Smith, drove to the meeting Monday in a stolen car.
Smith’s probation officer checked the tags on the car Smith was driving and found that it was stolen from a car rental business and that Smith was a suspect in a related grand theft auto case, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.

The officer phoned Flagler County sheriff’s deputies who showed up to question Smith about why he was driving the stolen vehicle.
Officers also discovered a loaded .25-caliber handgun in a bag Smith brought with him to the meeting, according to the News-Journal.
Smith said he didn’t know where he rented the car from or how many payments were made because his business partners handled those details — but he couldn’t name the business partners either.
“What’s with all these questions?” a belligerent Smith asked, the arresting officer according to the incident report.
When he was told he was being investigated for driving a stolen vehicle Smith promptly invoked his right to remain silent.
He was arrested and brought to Volusia County jail. He was released Tuesday on $5,000 bail.
Smith had been on probation for an incident last July when he was charged with, among other things, resisting arrest with violence and battery against a law enforcement officer.
