Team Obama blaming Hillary for failure in Syria; ‘He never wanted to do it’

hillaryobama-ap_2With yet another humanitarian crisis unfolding in the Middle East under his tutelage, President Barack Obama wants the American people to know he’s not to blame for his administration’s “abysmal failure” in Syria.

After nearly seven years in office, it’s not all that remarkable that Obama is trying to dodge responsibility for his boneheaded actions — what is remarkable is who he’s throwing under the bus.

Hillary Clinton.

With the U.S. military’s acknowledgement last week that after spending millions of dollars, only four or five American-trained fighters are currently engaged in fighting the Islamic State in Syria, the New York Times reported the White House is making it clear it is not to blame.

According to The Times:

The finger, it says, should be pointed not at Mr. Obama but at those who pressed him to attempt training Syrian rebels in the first place — a group that, in addition to congressional Republicans, happened to include former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The article says the White House has adapted an “I-told-you-so argument” in stating that Obama always had been a skeptic of training Syrian rebels.

“In effect, Mr. Obama is arguing that he reluctantly went along with those who said it was the way to combat the Islamic State, but that he never wanted to do it and has now has been vindicated in his original judgment,” The Times reported.

In news briefings held after the military’s admission, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the military was right in concluding “this was a more difficult endeavor than we assumed and that we need to make some changes to that program.”

“But I think it’s also time for our critics to fess up in this regard as well. They were wrong,” he added.

The revelation adds to a growing sentiment that Clinton’s biggest obstacle to the White House may not be the Republican Party, but the Obama administration — and its footpads at The New York Times.

Meanwhile, as The Times reported, the quagmire in Syria grows:

With more than 200,000 killed in the civil war, a wave of refugees flooding into Europe, and Russia now flying in arms and troops, the president finds himself with a geopolitical and humanitarian mess that will most likely not be settled before he leaves office in 16 months.

Critics will argue that it’s by design that the crisis will not be resolved before Obama leaves office. At the same time, the White House just made things a little more difficult for the person many expect to be his successor to put herself in a position to clean up his mess.
