Ever since the initial rush by the left to defend Ahmed Mohamed, the 14-year-old Muslim who built a suspicious looking clock in a briefcase, his story has been unraveling.
Prominent people have expressed skepticism at the teen’s claims that he didn’t intend for the clock to look like a bomb amid reports that he was uncooperative with police. A tweet that saw him rushing off to his lawyer for a lawsuit stirred suspicions even more.
Enter famed scientist Richard Dawkins — the evolutionary biologist and normally a hero of the left — who expressed anger at himself and others for being fooled into giving Mohamed “mistaken adulation” as gifts have begun arriving from Microsoft and others.
Unlike some others, Dawkins admitted he had been originally fooled by the incident. Evidence has since surfaced that the “homemade” clock wasn’t made by the teenager at all.

“Disassembling & reassembling is great. But you shouldn’t then claim it was your invention,” Dawkins wrote in a series of tweets Saturday. Dawkins insisted he wasn’t denigrating Mohamed, but was “putting down myself & the rest of us for being fooled.”
It’s not relevant to the undoubted wrongfulness of his arrest. It is relevant to the mistaken adulation he received. https://t.co/oO2dg17QHD — Richard Dawkins (@RichardDawkins) September 20, 2015
Many Twitter users agreed, argued that Mohamed intentionally made the device look like a bomb for attention.
@IOWRobert Me too. I jumped on the bandwagon myself and feel a fool for it.

@RichardDawkins I find it upsetting, but this kid knew what he was doing. This was done to generate outrage and nothing less. — Nervous Jarred (@12jrutherford) September 20, 2015
@RichardDawkins @kizolk his arrest was both lawful (it’s illegal to make an object that resembles a bomb even if it’s a clock) and standard — Eratosthenes (@HttpEra404) September 20, 2015
.@RichardDawkins Whole thing was a Hoax designed to manufacture Islamophobia. Exactly why we don’t want Muslims here. They’re a Cancer. — John Rivers (@JohnRiversToo) September 20, 2015
@RichardDawkins @silentshitpostr it’s not mistaken, it is 100% calculated for political reasons

@RichardDawkins @kizolk the truth was not well represented or investigated. The media and establishment failed — Elliott Ditman (@elliottditman) September 20, 2015
