Talk about painting with a broad brush.
The contempt for the opposition party on display Friday by White House press secretary Josh Earnest gives plenty of merit to the charge from President Barack Obama’s critics that he is the most polarizing chief executive in recent memory.
Seizing the opportunity to disparage Republicans far and wide, Earnest commented on an inappropriate question about Muslims asked by a member of the audience at a campaign event for GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, the Truth Revolt reported.
“Is anybody really surprised this happened at a Donald Trump rally?” he asked. “I don’t think anybody who has been paying attention to Republican politics is at all surprised.”

But Obama’s spokesman was just getting started with his broad strokes.
“The reason for that is the people who hold these offensive views are part of Mr. Trump’s base, and Mr. Trump himself would be the first to tell you that he’s got the biggest base of any Republican politician these days.”
Having dissed millions of Republican voters, Earnest then turned his attention to the party’s entire presidential field.
“Now, what’s also unfortunate is that Mr. Trump isn’t the first Republican politician to countenance these kinds of views in order to win votes,” he said. “In fact, that’s precisely what every Republican presidential candidate is doing when they decline to denounce Mr. Trump’s cynical strategy, because they’re looking for those same votes.”
Steeped in sanctimony, Earnest proceeded to show that without identity politics, the Democratic Party would be lost at sea.
“Those same members of Congress blocked immigration reform,” he added. “Those same members of Congress opposed re-authorization of the Voting Rights Act. Those same members of Congress couldn’t support a simple funding bill because they’re eager to defend the Confederate flag. So, those are the priorities of today’s Republican Party.”
True to form, Earnest pretends to know what every single Republican is thinking.
