Congressional hearing takes unexpected turn when Planned Parenthood videos start playing

As Congressional hearing provoked by undercover videos purporting to show Planned Parenthood engaged in selling the body parts of aborted babies took a shocking turn when said videos began playing.

The videos began playing on both sides of the room during the House Committee on Energy and Commerce hearing Wednesday much to the dismay of Democrat lawmakers, IJReview reported.

We are given no context for what we are watching,” Rep. Kathy Pitts, D-Fla said.

Officially, the committee was considering two bills that do practically the same thing — amend the Social Security Act to clarify that states are allowed to exclude medical providers from federal health care programs (including Medicaid and Medicare) who are suspected of completing abortions on born-alive infants.

The bills under consideration are The Protecting Infants Born Alive Act, introduced by Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-T.N.) and the Protect Infants from Partial-Birth Abortion Act, introduced by Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.).

But Democrats argued that those bills were not the real purpose of the hearing.

“It is clear the real intention of these bills is to eliminate abortion,” Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill said.

The hearing came hours after the White House decreed it would veto the bills if they passed Congress because they “impose new legal requirements related to the provision of abortion services in certain circumstances, which would likely have a chilling effect, reducing access to care.”
