A group of whale watchers got more than they bargained for as they watched a boat full of kayakers narrowly avoid being crushed to death by a humpback whale.
The group was on a whale watching trip Saturday with California’s Sanctuary Cruises, observing a group of whales swim and play between boats, when suddenly one leapt from the water and landed near the kayakers, causing their boat to disappear under the water.

Luckily for the kayakers, their boat popped back up quickly with them still on it, unscathed.
Sanctuary Cruises posted the video, shot by passenger Larry Plants, to YouTube Sunday and it’s already been viewed nearly 2 million times.

“We stopped to see a large aggregation of humpbacks feeding and carrying on with random acts of hijinks,” said the video description. “There were also a lot of kayakers right in the middle of it all. Humpbacks were coming up next to and in the middle of many kayakers. It was amusing.
“It’s all fun and games until someone gets jumped on,” it added. “The next thing we knew, this thing launched right on top of these two kayakers.”
