trump_carson_featGravis poll: Trump, Carson lead GOP Florida – Donald Trump is surging well ahead of other Republicans in Florida and Ben Carson is a solid second in a new poll released Monday by Gravis Marketing and the One America News Network. In a poll released two days before the second GOP presidential debate, billionaire developer Donald Trump is riding Republican voters’ wave of anti-establishment preference, polling 33.6 percent. Fellow non-politician and neurosurgeon Carson drew 22.4 percent. Read more

Senate offers court 2 congressional maps while House sticks to its original – The Florida Senate took a gamble Monday and submitted one congressional redistricting map that has never been voted on, and another that was rejected by Florida the House, as part of its official submission as ordered by the court. The Florida House took a more conventional approach and submitted the map that was approved 60-38 by the House before lawmakers tried and failed in August at their third attempt at reconfiguring the state’s 27 congressional districts. Fundraising surge raises financial stakes in Florida Senate presidency race – There is quite a financial arms race developing in the battle to become the next Florida Senate president. Sen. Joe Negron, R-Stuart, in May raised $623,550 for a political action committee he leads called Treasure Coast Alliance. He now has raised almost $1.1 million just since the start of 2015 for the committee which can be used to spread his influence around the state by helping his allies win elections. Read more

Florida ditches proposal to send driver’s licenses by mail – Bowing to public and political opposition, Florida scrapped plans Monday to join 35 other states that issue driver’s licenses by mail rather than in person.The idea died two weeks after the Herald/Times reported that the state highway safety agency was considering changing to a centralized issuance system that it said would make it easier to add anti-fraud features to cards to reduce identity theft.
