Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry announced Friday that he would drop out of the Republican presidential race, but the buzz around the story was all about Donald Trump.
Trump used Twitter to “wish Perry well” and called him a “terrific guy” after news of Perry’s departure broke.
.@GovernorPerry is a terrific guy and I wish him well- I know he will have a great future!

Trump’s tweet came across as disingenuous to those who have been following the feud between the two. In July, Trump used Twitter to slam Perry, saying he should be required to take an IQ test before entering the GOP debate. Republican presidential contender Bobby Jindal, who’s been going after Trump relentlessly over the past several days, called Trump out for his seemingly insincere message to Perry.
.@realDonaldTrump Attacked him one day. Praised him today. Sounding like a typical politician. Rick is a better man than you’ll ever be. — Gov. Bobby Jindal (@BobbyJindal) September 11, 2015
The feud wasn’t all water under the bridge for Perry, either. Many speculate that he was criticizing Trump as he gave his speech announcing the suspension of his campaign.
“For me, the message has always been greater than the man. The conservative movement has always been about principles, not personalities,” Perry said on Friday.
The heated rivalry between presidential hopeful Rand Paul and Trump has been no secret either.

Paul was quick to use Perry’s exit announcement as a way to bash Trump and the GOP as a whole.
What does it say about GOP when a 3 & half term Gov w/ a successful record of creating jobs bows out as a reality star leads in the polls? — Dr. Rand Paul (@RandPaul) September 11, 2015
So far, there’s been no response from Trump, but he was busy with other things.
I will be on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon tonight at 11:30. Should be fun! @jimmyfallon — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 11, 2015
