‘I’m not a heartless, racist child-kicker’: Camerawoman says migrants, some shouting, ‘Allahu Akbar,’ scared her

Immigrant-kicking camerawoman Petra Laszlo, who made national news in the United States when she was caught on camera tripping refugees in Hungary, later apologized for the incident.

“I’m not a heartless, racist child-kicker,” she said. “The camera was shooting, hundreds of migrants broke through the police cordon, one of them rushed to me, and I was scared.”

Saying that something “snapped” inside her, Laszlo was released from her position at the news agency N1TV, run by the anti-immigrant Jobbik party of Hungary.

The refugees, mainly from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, were frustrated by conditions at a camp where they were being kept.

Among those she tripped were adults carrying children. Some of the migrants were shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ during their escape from police, according to the New York Times.

“A N1TV colleague behaved unacceptably at the Roszke reception center. The cameraman’s employment was terminated with immediate effect,” read a statement on the news agency’s website.

“It’s hard to make good decisions at a time when people are in a panic and many hundreds of people rushing. I’m sorry about what happened … I take responsibility for it,” said Laszlo, who faces criminal charges for the incident.

She was detained Thursday and questioned by police, but later released.
