Fox News anchor Shepard Smith proved again why he’s not considered by many to be one of the more conservative voices at the network, as he covered the release of Kim Davis.
On Tuesday, when the Rowan County clerk who was jailed for refusing to grant same sex marriage licenses was released from prison to the cheers of a crowd gathered outside, Smith painted them as hypocrites and called it a “religious play.”
“This is the same crowd that says, ‘We don’t want Sharia law, don’t let them tell us what to do, keep their religion out of our lives and out of our government.’ Well, here we go again,” he said.
According to Smith, Davis wanted a religious accommodation when the issue started, but that’s not what it is about at all.
“You’re hearing now what they want,” he said. “And this what they’re going to get. They’re gonna get a stirred up argument and a couple of days in the news cycle, and they’re going to be able to make these claims.”
Comparing gay marriage to the struggle of interracial couples who want to get married, Smith said “haters are gonna hate.”
