Behind the scenes jockeying between presidential hopefuls took place Tuesday at a rally for Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis.
Davis stood next to Republican presidential contender Mike Huckabee while addressing a crowd of supporters upon her release from jail.
But not all of the drama took place before the glare of the cameras, according to the New York Times.
It turns out that Huckabee wasn’t the only GOP presidential candidate in Grayson, Kentucky — Ted Cruz was also present, but a Huckabee aide allegedly prevented the Texas senator from stepping before the media.
The Times reported:
When Mr. Cruz, who met with Ms. Davis, exited the Carter County Detention Center, a throng of journalists beckoned him toward their microphones, but an aide to Mr. Huckabee blocked the path of the senator, who appeared incredulous.
Raw Story published a screenshot from MSNBC of a man the left-leaning website identified as a “staffer” from the Huckabee campaign pointing Cruz away as the candidate looked on in disbelief.
And while the drama behind the snub may have taken a back seat to Davis’ release on Tuesday, it got far more attention on social media — beginning with highly popular conservative radio talk show host Mark Levin. Although, more than one user said that, upon the launching of the song “Eye of the Tiger,” Cruz was better off in the long run.
Here’s Levin’s post, along with a sampling of other responses from Twitter:
Who does Huckabee think he is? This is disgraceful. http://t.co/2xkkfmQc78

Probably a blessing in disguise. The #Huckster rally was a #fail. Eye of the Tiger blaring on speakers? Really? @marklevinshow

@marklevinshow HuckBee was there for the media and cameras. He used Davis for a political show. I bet it ends up hurting him

@marklevinshow Huckabee show what type of America he envisions. One where freedoms are denied. Thanks for showing us “Great One”!

@marklevinshow Mike Huckabee reminded me of a phony televangelist at the Kim Davis rally. It was all for SHOW!

@marklevinshow The Huckster thinks he’s God’s personal bouncer.

@marklevinshow What the heck is wrong with @GovMikeHuckabee – is he just another establishment RINO helping to block @SenTedCruz?

@marklevinshow they did him a favor…which he probably realized when eye of the tiger began playing.
