Fla. cops sit through training on how to properly identify dead transgenders

India ClarkePolice in St. Petersburg, Florida, are being given a lesson in how to not “misgender” people they interact with.

“If you would’ve told me 25 years ago that I’d be having this conversation with you I would say ‘no we’re not,” Chief Anthony Holloway told USA Today. “But again times are changing and we need to change with the times.”

The three-page order informs the officers that the name and gender on a government ID are not as important as the names people wishes to be called and the gender they claim to identify with.

The subject was the result of a controversy caused when Samuel Clarke, a  prostitute who dressed in women’s clothes and went by the name India Clarke, was found dead in a park and identified as a male by police.

How exactly police were supposed to ask the dead man what gender he preferred however, is unknown, but it would have been a heck of a conversation.
