Sarah Palin stands up for Trump: ‘Public doesn’t give a flying flip’ about gotcha questions

jake-sarah-topperFormer Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin defended Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s performance during his apparently confused interview with Hugh Hewitt, stating in essence that the nation needs a leader, not a Trivial Pursuit champ.

When Hewitt asked Trump about Gen. Qasem Soleimani, leader of Iran’s Quds Force, the billionaire real estate developer seemed to confuse it with the Iraqi Kurds.

“Well, that is a ‘gotcha’ question, though, you know, when you’re asking me who’s running this, this, this,” Trump finally said.

Palin agreed during her Sunday morning appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“I’d rather have a president who is tough and puts America first than can win a game of Trivial Pursuit,” she told host Jake Tapper.

“I don’t think the public gives a flying flip if somebody knows of who is, today, the specific leader of a specific region,” she said, noting the volatility of politics in Africa and the Middle East.

She added that perhaps the more important things a candidate should be concerned with might be the price of oil and the amount of crude the United States imports each year.

Tapper should have consulted with his network’s own expert on the subject before his interview with Palin.

CNN senior political analyst David Gergen told CNN host Anderson Cooper Thursday that the questions Hewitt posed to Trump were “gotcha” in nature.

When the media asks candidates “who’s the head of this African government or that African government, who’s, what’s the difference between Tajikistan and Pakistan, you know, those are regarded as gotcha questions,” he said.

“That’s an old trick and those are gotcha questions.”
