On the heels of an interview Hillary Clinton gave this week in which she refused to apologize for her email scandal a Fox News Sunday panel called her response laughable.
In the interview with to MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Clinton’s only form of apology came when she apologized to the American people for their stupidity.
“I am sorry that this has been confusing to people and has raised a lot of questions,” she said, while still maintaining she did nothing wrong even as the aide who maintained her server Bryan Pagliano, has opted to plead the fifth.
“She was saying I was so caught up in fixing relations with Russia and Libya and all the rest that I absentmindedly set up an alternative e-mail system. It doesn’t pass the laugh test,” syndicated columnist George Will said.
USA Today reporter Susan Page agreed and said Clinton’s answers didn’t make sense.
“If she had not have time to think through her email system, wouldn’t she have just used the State Department system that was in place?” she asked. “This is a controversy that is not going away. It’s going to be here for months and it is costing her dearly in two ways. In her reputation as an honest and trustworthy person, but also in her ability to talk about some other issue.”
Washington Post reporter Robert Costa said that while he believes it is an issue, most Democrats do not.
“With the Democrats when you’re on the trail and you’re in Iowa and New Hampshire, Democrats are still not really thinking this is a big issue for her,” he said.
Page, however, thinks the more that comes to light, like the fact that Pagliano was paid privately by the Clintons, which was revealed this week, the more it damages her campaign because of the lackluster fashion in which Clinton has handled it.
“It’s an example of exactly the opposite of what you’re supposed to do when you face a political problem like this. Rule No. 1, get the whole story out there. Deal with it. Say you’re sorry. Maybe you apologize and move on,” she said.
But if she’s waiting on an apology from anyone named Clinton she’s going to be waiting a long time.
