It’s hard to know if President Obama was aware of what was going on around him as he gallivanted around Alaska renaming mountains and taking selfies.
It turns out Obama — and the country he’s supposed to be leading — had some unwanted guests in the Great White North – Chinese warships in the Bering Sea off the Alaskan coast.
According to Fox News:
White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters on Wednesday that the Defense Department “positively identified a number of Chinese naval vessels in that region, but based on their analysis, they have not detected any sort of threat or threatening activities.”
The U.S. military reportedly has been aware of the ships and tracking their movements for days as they moved through international waters. Earnest said the intent of the ships’ presence “is still unclear” while speaking aboard Air Force One as Obama flew near the Bering Sea.
The Wall Street Journal was the first to report on the ships, noting three surface warfare ships, one amphibious assault ship and one supply vessel.
The Chinese taunting could be part of a humiliating trend for the U.S.
Last Independence Day, Russian bombers buzzed U.S. airspace while Putin simultaneously mocked Obama with a “Happy Fourth” phone call.
Meanwhile, Americans have to endure their president taking Alaskan selfies in an effort to convince them that climate change is the biggest threat the country faces.
