Let’s face it, Harris Faulkner isn’t a terribly common name.
That’s part of the reason Fox News anchor, and six-time News Emmy winner, Harris Faulkner is less than pleased about a “demeaning and insulting” Hasbro toy hamster than shares her name, and why she’s taking the toy manufacturer to court for $5 million.
The “Outnumbered” co-host is suing Hasbro for wrongfully appropriating her “unique and valuable name and distinctive persona” to a toy hamster that she claims even bears her resemblance, according to Deadline.
The fact that the manufacturer put a “trademark” symbol after the name was even more troubling to Faulkner, who is looking for “substantial commercial and emotional damage.”
“Hasbro’s manufacture, sale, and distribution of the Harris Faulkner Hamster Doll is extremely concerning and distressing to Faulkner,” says the 15-page court filing. “In addition to its prominent and unauthorized use of Faulkner’s name, elements of the Harris Faulkner Hamster Doll also bear a physical resemblance to Faulkner’s traditional professional appearance, in particular tone of its complexion, the shape of its eyes, and the design of its eye makeup.”
Yes, the toy hamster has eye makeup.
According to the complaint filed in New Jersey, Hasbro doesn’t even have a chance to negotiate some kind of future product endorsement, let alone create an unsanctioned hamster action figure bearing her likeness.
“Faulkner does not endorse products of any kind, as doing so would be a breach of journalistic ethics, would directly harm her professional credibility, and would be in violation of her contractual obligations to her employer,” the complaint says.
It looks like any plans for an “Outnumbered” collection of “Little Pet Shop” toys might have to be put on hold.
