Gunman who shot news crew is dead; bitter former colleague took revenge, then shot self

The man responsible for shooting WDBJ reporter Alison Parker and photojournalist Adam Ward is reportedly dead.

Police have identified Vester Lee Flanagan as the alleged shooter of the news crew.

Law enforcement confronted Flanagan on Interstate 66 and the suspect shot himself, according to CNN. The cable network didn’t confirm Flanagan was killed, but WRIC anchor Amanda Malkowski posted on social media that the gunman was dead:

CNN reported that a former WDBJ employee said Flanagin worked at WDBJ as a reporter for about a year using the on-air name, Bryce Williams. He was apparently fired, according to the source.

A 23-page manifesto was faxed to ABC News under the name Bryce Williams, which was handed over to investigators.

Parker and Ward were broadcasting early Wednesday at Smith Mountain Lake in Moneta, Va., when a gunman opened fire on them, according to WTVR.
