A group of civilian motorists took matters into their own hands to detain a gunman who left a Louisiana state trooper fighting for his life.
The officer passed away Monday morning.
The gunman, 54-year-old Kevin Daigle, shot, and critically wounded Louisiana State Trooper Steven Vincent, during an attempted arrest on Highway 14 Sunday, Sgt. James Anderson told the Daily News.
Daigle shot Vincent in the head with a sawed off shotgun and, as he paced around the scene, some brave civilians rushed in to check on the officer.
The cold-blooded shooter asked the motorists if Vincent was still alive. When they told him he was, Daigle said to the critically injured trooper, “You’re lucky you’re going to die.” The News reported.

But the civilians didn’t wait around to see what Daigle would do next. They tackled him and detained him while using the injured trooper’s radio to call for help.
“They stopped to help my trooper and I will never forget that,” Col. Michael Edmonson said at a press conference Sunday. “I was pretty proud of them.”
Louisiana Gov. and 2016 Republican presidential hopeful Bobby Jindal asked for prayers for the trooper on Twitter Sunday night.
Please send prayers for a Louisiana State Trooper who was shot during a traffic stop today.
