Trump pledges to fight ‘assaults on Christianity’ — at home AND overseas

trump-xmasDonald Trump doesn’t claim to be a regular at Sunday services, but it doesn’t stop him from  weighing in on attacks on Christianity, from the war in the Middle East to the “war on Christmas” in America.

“I go out of my way to use the word ‘Christmas,’” the real estate tycoon assured talk radio host Cliff Sims.

Sims interviewed Trump Friday on Yellowhammer Radio, prior to the candidate’s massive rally that evening in Mobile, Alabama.

“There’s an assault on anything having to do with Christianity,” Trump said. “They don’t want to use the word ‘Christmas’ anymore at department stores.”

The business magnate pointed to litigious actions from the left to intimidate retailers and said he would fight that if elected president.

“There’s always lawsuits and unfortunately a lot of those lawsuits are won by the other side,” Trump said. “I will assault that. I will go so strongly against so many of the things, when they take away the word ‘Christmas.’”

To eliminate any confusion, Trump spelled out his own religious beliefs.

“I’m Protestant,” he said. “I’m Presbyterian to be exact. And I grew up in Sunday school, and I did all of the things that you probably did. And I believe very, very strongly. I’m a big believer in the Bible.”

That doesn’t mean he’s a regular church-goer, though. In news that will probably not surprise a soul, Trump admitted attending services isn’t part of his weekly routine.

“I’m not sure numbers of times going to church,” Trump said. “I go as often as I can. As you can imagine, I have a schedule that’s not like a normal person’s schedule. My schedule is a killer. But I go as often as possible.”

And the candidate who made immigration policies a key part of the upcoming presidential race, brought immigration into the religious discussion, too.

“There’s real assault on Christianity when you look at what’s going on in Syria and ISIS,” he said. “Do you know that if you’re a Christian from Syria, you cannot get into the United States? If you’re a Muslim from Syria, it’s one of the easiest places to get into the United States from.”

The complete interview is here. The Christmas segment starts about the 6 minute mark.
