A black minister and vocal critic of President Obama and “the Rev.” Al Sharpton appeared on the Fox Business Network to take on Black Lives Matter activists in their own back yard.
The Rev. Johnathan Gentry, minister at West Angeles Church of God in Christ, had some advice for Democratic candidates who’ve been shouted down recently by the anti-police protesters.
“If they want to speak with you, challenge them,” he told Fox Business host Charles Paine.
They should ask the protesters, “Why are you not cleaning up your own community if black lives matter?”
Growing more passionate, the minister ticked off parts of the country where blacks preyed on their own people.
“Where were you at in Chicago?” he asked of the movement. “Where were you at in Baltimore? Where were you at in Ferguson last week when 9-year-old Jamyla Bolden was shot dead in her own home in that drive-by shooting on Tuesday night?”
He told Payne that “If you want to recognize black lives, recognize the ones that we are killing.”
He said that while the movement wants to “protest for thugs,” they’re “nowhere to be found in their own communities.”
Gentry called Black Lives Matter a “superficial, shallow movement” that shouldn’t be avoided by candidates — they should instead be confronted.
“They are cookies with no milk. Lamborghini with no 12-cylinder engine,” he said. “When you look inside, there is nothing there.”
Of the presidential candidates, he said “The only one I think that could hit them where it hurts would be Donald Trump. He wouldn’t be afraid to talk to them in that arena.”
