Actress Ellen Page takes a grilling from Ted Cruz in attempted ambush

cruz-pageLiberals are finding to their dismay that it’s a mistake to ambush Ted Cruz.

Republican presidential candidates on the stump continue to deal with liberal plants looking to catch them off guard on hot-button social issues, but the trouble-makers may want to take note that the Texas senator is not the best person to go after.

With media all around, actress Ellen Page, who starred in the “X-Men” series and the movie “Juno” and came out of the closet as gay last year, ambushed the GOP presidential contender Friday at the Iowa State Fair about “people getting fired just for being gay or trans,” according to ABC News.

But Cruz skillfully turned the issue into a discussion of religious liberty, explaining that “no one has the right to force someone else to abandon their faith and their conscience.” He shut down Page’s attempt to embarrass him over gay-rights issues, and did it while grilling pork chops.

“What about the question about LGBT people being fired for being gay-trans?” Page asked.

“Well, what we’re seeing right now, we’re seeing Bible-believing Christians being persecuted for living according to their faith,” Cruz responded.

“You’re discriminating against LGBT people,” the actress replied. “Well, would you use that argument in segregation?”

But Cruz wasn’t about to go down the rabbit hole of her choosing.

“Now, I’m happy to answer your question, but not to have a back-and-forth debate,” he said.

When Cruz brought up the persecution of homosexuals in the Middle East by the Iranian government and Islamic State militants, Page tried to pivot to gays being persecuted by Christians in other countries, including Jamaica.

“Does that trouble you at all, that you draw a moral equivalence between Christians in Jamaica and radical Islamic terrorists and ISIS that are beheading children?” the Texas senator fired back.

When asked later by the media, Cruz conceded he did not know he was talking to a Hollywood actress.

“No idea who it was,” he said. “I’m always happy to discuss religious liberty.”

In the end, Page ended up getting grilled just as if she were one of the pork chops cooking in front of her.
