Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer wasn’t mincing words when it came to President Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran.
Calling revelations that Iran was going to be free to use its own personnel to inspect a controversial nuclear facility long accused of developing nuclear detonation devices, Krauthammer called the provision “scandalous” and “farcical,” and predicted they would be utterly meaningless in the end.
The Associated Press reported the portion of Iran’s side agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency on Wednesday.
On Wednesday’s edition of Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” Krauthammer observed that self-inspection defeated the purpose of inspections. It amounted to the world placing its trust on a rogue nation in which no trust should be placed.
He said the reason the administration kept this provision under wraps is that “no one can believe that the inspection will be carried out by Iran itself.”
“We know in advance that the self-inspection will yield the conclusion that there was no weaponization happening,” Krauthammer said.
“This is wired in advance, and that’s what makes it important, scandalous and farcical all at once,” he said. “It’s hard to know what further could be done to make the deal as scandalous as it is.”
