Cheaters’ website hack exposes .gov, State Dept. addresses – what, no private servers?

Maybe Hillary Clinton should have taught more people at how to use a private email system.

Hackers who stole sensitive customer information from the online cheating website Ashley Madison, made good on their threat to release the information to the public on Tuesday, and it looks like at least 111 users had email addresses, according to Weasel Zippers.

The online dating website – marketed as the premier network for married individuals to find an affair – was breached about a month ago, and was warned by the hackers that customer information would be exposed if the site was not shut down. According to Weasel Zippers, a slew of .gov email addresses was apparently used by customers, including several that used the State Department domain.

But, CSOonline says to tread cautiously about the breakdown of site addresses:

If the data in the leaked files is valid, then Impact Team has created a blackmail archive that could land scores of people in hot water.

However, ALM ( Avid Life Media) never required that data be valid unless the user registered for a paid account, and even then the verification process wasn’t that hard to bypass as long as the bills were paid.

Clearly there are plenty of false records, including those from the White House, or However, the records with full account details, including profiles matched to personal and financial records, are going to be harder to dispute.

The dump of .gov email addresses included in the hack were posted online in a searchable document.
