A Playboy Playmate has been stripped of her right to bear arms in New York City — but she isn’t taking it lying down.
Stephanie Adams, Miss November 1992, had her application for a gun permit denied by the New York Police Department. In a letter, the NYPD license division cited Adams’ history of domestic incidents “as both a complainant and a perpetrator,” the New York Daily News reported.
But Adams believes she was denied because she won a $1.2 million lawsuit against the department in 2012 for being treated roughly by police.
She rebutted the NYPD’s concerns in a letter to the license division that fell on deaf ears, according to the News.
“Filing complaints many years ago against stalkers, rather than fighting them, hurting them or allowing them to hurt myself, is in fact a sign of ‘good moral character,’” she wrote. “Because I handled those problems peacefully (and) legally.”
However, in the initial disapproval letter, Deputy Inspector Michael Endall cited racy pictures of Adams in a police uniform holding a gun as reason to deny her request.
“You are photographed holding what appears to be an NYPD authorized Smith & Wesson 5946, with your finger in a ‘nonsafe’ position in the trigger well,” he wrote, according to the News.
Adams’ attorney Sanford Rubenstein said if his client is being denied as retaliation for her successful lawsuit against the NYPD, she could file an appeal, the News reported.
According to the News, Adams is seeking the permit to obtain guns left to her by her father after he died.
