‘Is Megyn Kelly the next Oprah?’ Odd timing, but Fortune asks…

Megyn Kelly may be battered but she’s not bowing, and she may have more in common with bruising mogul-turned-politico Donald Trump than we think.

Some are asking if the Fox News star will rise from her “bloody” confrontation with Trump, leading to Kelly becoming the next Oprah.

Fortune Magazine reported Monday that Kelly, 44, is growing beyond her role as Fox’s first-string news personality.

Her show, “The Kelly File” is ranked No. 2 in cable news, according to Fox, and Time ranks her as one of its 100 most influential people.

Kelly took on Trump during Thursday’s debate, igniting a feud which pitted Trump supporters against Republican stalwarts such as Erick Erickson’s RedState following.

Erickson cancelled Trump’s invitation and instead invited Kelly  to the group’s Atlanta event Saturday after Trump’s remark that “there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever,” Friday night.

Though Kelly has refused to apologize for what many have characterized as bias against Trump during the debate, she’s ready to “move forward” from the controversy. But are her eyes  really on building an empire for herself?

Fox News CEO Roger Ailes told Variety that Kelly will have a series of primetime specials on Fox News starting early next year. These one-hour interviews will look like her Duggars scoop. “Barbara Walters has retired,” Kelly told Variety. “Diane Sawyer left her anchor role. Oprah has moved to the OWN network and is doing a different thing now. So why not me?”

Ailes is supportive: “Listen, Megyn is so good today that there is no interview I would not want her to do.” Most importantly, so is Rupert Murdoch, CEO and chairman of News Corp, which owns all things Fox. He tweeted his support for Kelly and the other two Fox News moderators:

With a TV drama in development in collaboration with A-list actor Kevin Spacey, Kelly is poised to remain at the top of her game, Donald Trump notwithstanding.

Fortune compares her to Oprah: “Oprah Winfrey became a billionaire by moving beyond status as a media personality and owning the intellectual property.

“Don’t be surprised if one day Kelly hits the even-bigger-time.”
