Fox News CEO Roger Ailes gives statement on ‘blunt’ Trump phone call: ‘Air has been cleared’

Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes confirmed that he had a “blunt” conversation with Donald Trump by phone on Monday.

The two “cleared the air” over what Trump says has been unfair treatment of him on the part of the network during and after the 2016 Republican Presidential Primary Debate.

In a statement obtained by BPR, Ailes said:

Donald Trump and I spoke today. We discussed our concerns, and I again expressed my confidence in Megyn Kelly. She is a brilliant journalist and I support her 100 percent. I assured him that we will continue to cover this campaign with fairness & balance. We had a blunt but cordial conversation and the air has been cleared.

Since the network hosted the debate on Thursday, a public feud has escalated between Trump and popular Fox News host and debate moderator, Megyn Kelly.

Kelly, for the most part, has not responded as Trump launched a campaign of harsh criticism, tweeting and retweeting mockery and complaints toward Kelly and Fox News.

Not one for going easy on his adversaries, the tough-talking mogul added a tweet on Sunday promoting Kelly’s 5-year-old interview with shock jock Howard Stern, where the raunchy conversation, as Trump put it, was not so innocent.

Kelly briefly acknowledged the controversy on Monday’s “The Kelly File”: “I certainly will not apologize for doing good journalism,” she said, as she called a truce.

Trump tweeted about his phone call with Ailes, indicating he was satisfied with the result.
