Obama sticks it to GOP as he waves goodbye for 17-day Martha’s Vineyard vacation

President Barack Obama stood by his remarks comparing the Republican Party to hard-line Iranians chanting “death to America.”

Then he went on vacation.

Despite the uproar from the opposition, including a call from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for the president to retract his words, Obama doubled down on his offending point of view during a CNN interview set to air Sunday morning.

“What I said is absolutely true, factually,” Obama told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria.

“The truth of the matter is, inside of Iran, the people most opposed to the deal are the Revolutionary Guard, the Quds Force, hardliners who are implacably opposed to any cooperation with the international community,” he said.

Watch Zakaria discuss the interview in this video posted on social media by CNN:

So much so that even though it’s still very much up in the air whether Congress approves his “historic” nuclear deal with Iran, and even though he just lost key Democratic leader Sen. Chuck Schumer’s support, the president jetted off to tony Martha’s Vineyard for his annual summer vacation.

CBS News White House corespondent Mark Knoller posted a photo of a now-familiar site: the Obamas heading toward Marine One for holiday, then up onto Air Force One:

Schumer’s defection may result in the swanky getaway’s becoming a “working” vacation, according to Knoller:
