The quick reaction of two hero cops in California saved a man’s life, proving again that police are the good guys.
From several blocks away, San Mateo Officers Lance Whitted and Erik Rueppel heard a car crash into a railroad crossing gate Monday evening.
They ran to the rescue, The New York Daily News reported, arriving at the scene to find a car stuck under the gate and a train quickly approaching. The scene was all caught on video, according to the Daily News.
One officer sped to the car and yanked out the driver, video shows. They began running until the driver, a man in his 20s, fell to the ground, forcing the officer to drag him by the arm to safety.
Meanwhile, the other officer went to the tracks to signal the train to stop.
Seconds later, the Caltrain No. 385 barreled through, smashing the hood of the car into pieces, video shows.
Caltrain praised the deputies as heroes on its Twitter account Monday.

Though actions of these officers prevented a certain tragedy, it appears the driver’s actions may have endangered all of their lives.
According to NBC Bay Area the incident is under investigation as police believe the driver was intoxicated.
