Gov Scott floodingGov. Scott arrives in flood damaged Pasco County – Gov. Rick Scott toured flood damaged areas of Pasco County on Monday after residents living near the Anclote River were evacuated from their homes. One of the areas hit hardest was the Suncoast Gateway Mobile Village in Port Richey, where everyone was forced to leave. All day long emergency crews worked to get residents out of their flooded mobile home park. Read more

AFP grades Florida legislators on economic issues – Americans for Prosperity’s (AFP) Florida chapter unveiled its legislative scorecard, grading Florida legislators on their commitment to economic conservatism. Two Republicans in the Florida Senate — Sen. Jeff Brandes of St. Petersburg and Sen. Travis Hutson, R-Palm Coast — received “A+” grades from AFP and were named “champions of economic freedom” by the group. Read more

Corrine Brown calls for constitutional amendment requiring Medicaid expansion in Florida – If the Florida Legislature and Gov. Rick Scott won’t pass Medicaid expansion, then U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown said she will let voters decide with a constitutional amendment – after she figures out the ballot language, prints the petition and finds volunteers across the state who will organize petition drives. She won’t be airing any radio or television advertisements, she said, but she’ll rely on person-to-person interaction to get the minimum of almost 700,000 petitions signed. Read more

Hundreds of Florida bear hunt permits sold on first day — The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission started selling permits for bear hunting Monday, despite a legal challenge to the hunt. The permits, which cost $100 for Florida residents and $300 for nonresidents, are valid during the last week in October and can be purchased online, in tax collector offices or in some sporting goods stores. Amazon to add 2,000 new jobs in Florida – Amazon is nearly doubling its number of workers at two Florida fulfillment centers. Gov. Rick Scott announced Monday that Amazon will be adding 2,000 new jobs at its warehouses in Ruskin and Lakeland. The fulfillment centers already employ more than 2,000 people. Read more
