The suspect in the shooting and killing of Memphis police officer Sean Bolton during a routine traffic stop Saturday night has been identified as Tremaine Wilbourn, who was recently released from prison after serving a term for bank robbery.
The Memphis news outlet Commercial Appeal tweeted:
Update: 29-year-old Tremaine Wilbourn wanted for shooting of MPD Ofc. Bolton. $10K reward. http://t.co/bIMGIayOgo pic.twitter.com/ZUJh54owBz

The fact that there was no rioting after a black man shot a white police officer wasn’t lost on anyone.

Then this added nugget of information about Wilbourn’s release came to light:
#SeanBolton ‘s killer, Tremaine Wilbourn, was on supervised release for bank robbery. #LESM http://t.co/0vxoEl3Qxa pic.twitter.com/1UtAqtDxbr

Tweeps observed he obviously wasn’t supervised enough.
@DonnaRapado not to supervised if he was selling dope, carrying a gun, and killing cops!! #epicFail #PoliceLivesMatter ??❤️

@DonnaRapado Sad. This person who had to supervise him, lost track of him a long time ago, I would say! Hold that person accountable, too

Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong had it right when he said of this case, “At the end of the day, we have to ask ourselves, do all lives matter? Regardless of race, creed, color, economic status, what profession that person holds.”
The New York Daily News reported:
Tremaine Wilbourn, 29, was a passenger in a parked 2002 Mercedes Benz on Saturday night when he opened fire on Officer Sean Bolton, fatally wounding the Iraq war veteran and family man, authorities said.
Bolton spotted the Mercedes parked illegally shortly after 9 p.m. and pulled over to investigate, apparently interrupting a drug deal, Armstrong said during a news conference. A brief struggle followed, and Wilbourn unloaded on the 33-year-old officer, hitting him multiple times.
Wilbourn, who was on supervised release following a bank robbery conviction, and the driver both ran off, leaving the wounded officer near death on the side of the road. A good Samaritan took Bolton’s radio and called for help.
“When you look at this individual, you’re looking at a coward,” Armstrong said, as he held up a picture of Wilbourn. “He’s a coward. You gun down, you murder a police officer for literally less than 2 grams of marijuana.”
