CNN “New Day” co-host Chris Cuomo started out playing hardball with White House chief spokesman Josh Earnest about the administration’s continued blind support for Planned Parenthood.
But the hardball turned into a wiffle ball by the end of Monday’s interview.
“Is this a moment in time to take a look at what Planned Parenthood does and say selling fetal baby parts for science or for whatever reason is not good?” Cuomo began, referring to recent undercover videos depicting the organization’s senior staff haggling over the price of organs harvested from aborted babies.
“Chris, I don’t have a whole lot of insight into the specific policies and procedures that Planned Parenthood follows. But what they say, they say they follow the highest ethical standards in the industry,” Earnest answered,
Last week, Earnest was called out for mouthing Planned Parenthood’s talking points. He was doing it again it again.
“You saw the videos though, Josh,” Cuomo said. “You saw the videos. No high ethical standards at play there. Base stuff, ugly stuff.”
Earnest continued to recite Planned Parenthood’s argument of “blame the messenger instead of the message.”
“There’s no denying the fact that the organization that is clearly anti-Planned Parenthood that put out the videos put them out not because of news value but because of shock value,” he said.
“I haven’t seen the videos, but even based on the news coverage, the videos are shocking,“ he admitted, before playing Planned Parenthood’s mouthpiece again.
“Those who have taken a look at the videos have raised concerns about whether or not those videos are authentic, about whether or not they have been selectively edited in a way to misconstrue or even distort or mislead about what it is that Planned Parenthood does,” he continued.
“I haven’t seen the videos. I can’t render my own judgment on that. People who have looked at the video have raised significant concerns about that, and I think anybody would question the source. I think that’s legitimate.”
And then Cuomo let it go.
He didn’t press Earnest on merely repeating Planned Parenthood’s stock arguments. He didn’t hammer at him about stating an opinion about the four videos that he claimed he hadn’t seen.
He just let it go.

Cuomo’s cowardice didn’t go unnoticed on social media, especially after Cuomo tried to cover for his softball interview on Twitter. Here are a few examples:

This isn’t the way you get to the big leagues, Chris. You know, like Fox News.
