He's not on a golf course; Scott Walker cancels campaign stops to attend Marine’s funeral

Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is proving to be a man of conviction — and patriotism.

Shortly after the horrific murders of four Marines and one Navy petty officer in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Walker used his leadership role to lower American flags in his state to half-staff– something that took D.C. “leaders” five days to do.

Walker is now putting his goal to become the ultimate leader – America’s next president – on temporary hold to attend the funeral of Wisconsin native Marine Sgt. Carson Holmquist, who was killed in the Chattanooga terrorist attack of July 16, CNN reported.

“We honor the memory of Sgt. Carson Holmquist, and we will never forget the courage and sacrifice he displayed serving this great country,” Walker said.

Walker canceled weekend campaign stops in North Carolina and New Hampshire to head home for Holmquist’s funeral, set to take place in Grantsburg, Wisconsin.

Walker had visited Nashville after the shootings to pay his respects to the fallen, but also took time to advocate for common-sense legislation regarding America’s “gun-free” military facilities.

“I believe the law and policy needs to be changed nationally so that our heroes, the men and women who serve us in the military, can be protected at these centers or anywhere else where they’re out in the public,” Walker said, the Tennessean reported.

Walker said flags in Wisconsin would remain at half-staff until after the funerals for all five slain services members.

Holmquist joined the Marines in 2009. He served two tours in Afghanistan, earning the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, a Global War of Terrorism Service Medal, and two Sea Service Deployment ribbons, according to his obituary.

Holmquist is survived by his parents, wife, and young son.
