John McCain responds to Trump: ‘I’m not a hero’

He took the high road.

Presidential hopeful Donald Trump has been saying lots of things about Sen. John McCain. The Arizona Republican is finally responding, and he chose MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Monday to do it.

Co-host Mika Brzezinski began woith the question on everyone’s mind: Does Trump owe him an apology?

“I think he may owe an apology to the families of those who have sacrificed in conflict and those who have undergone the prison experience in serving their country,” McCain said.

McCain added a response to those who refer to him as a hero for his six years in captivity after his capture during the Vietnam War.

“When Mr. Trump said he prefers to be with people who are not captured — well, the great honor of my life was to serve in the company of heroes. I’m not a hero. But those who were my senior ranking officers…those that inspired us to do things we otherwise wouldn’t have been capable of doing — those are the people that I think he owes an apology to.”

When referencing McCain at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa Saturday, Trump said he preferred the company of people who didn’t get captured.

Referring to several recent pieces of legislation that he introduced, McCain also rebutted Trump’s assertions that he had done nothing to assist veterans.
