It looks like presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s line questioning Sen. John McCain’s heroism for being a six-year prisoner of war isn’t all that original.
It was a part of comedian Chris Rock’s stand up comedy routine — seven years ago.
Trump made his sarcastic McCain remark Saturday at the 2015 Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa.
“He was a war hero because he was captured,” Trump told host Frank Luntz. “I like people who weren’t captured.”
But the line didn’t originate with Trump — it came from a 2008 HBO Chris Rock comedy special.
“He a war hero. He a war hero,” Rock said of then-GOP presidential nominee McCain. “He a war hero that got captured. There’s a lot of guys in jail that got captured. I don’t want to vote for nobody that got captured. I want to vote for the motherf**ker that got away.”
Here’s the clip. The remark about McCain being a war hero begins at the 3:15 mark.
WARNING: Very raw language.
