Muslim shooter of US Marines writes blog posts with insight into ‘Jihad for Allah’

pic artBlog posts written by the gunman who attacked two U.S. military facilities, killing four Marines on Thursday, are providing more insight into the mindset of Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez.

Abdulazeez was a Muslim and wrote two posts on July 13 describing his religious beliefs, according to the Daily Beast that first reported on the killer’s website. Confirmation of the authenticity of Abdulazeez’s blog posts is still being confirmed, but the Daily Beast linked to it here.

The first post, titled “A Prison Called Dunya,” contained cryptic messages about escaping Earth, or “dunya,” to enter a fantasy world.

“Imagine that you are taken by force and placed in a prison,” the post starts. Abdulazeez then tells a story about being content in the prison but having to pass a test or be sent to a worse prison cell.

Abdulazeez wrote that time and focus must be spent on passing the exam.

They would do this because they know and have been told that they will be rewarded with pleasures that they have never seen.

He also wrote about the Quran and of acceptance from Allah.

Subhnallah, this life we are living is nothing more than a test of our faith and patience. It was designed to separate the inhabitants of Paradise from the inhabitants of Hellfire, and to rank amongst them the best of the best and worst of the worst. Don’t let the society we live in deviate you from the task at hand. Take your study guide, the Quran and Sunnah, with strength and faith, and be firm as you live your short life in this prison called Dunya.

In Abdulazeez’s second post, he told a story of three blind men feeling an elephant to try to figure out what it is. The three men all feel different parts of the elephant and describe differently how they think it looks.

Abdulazeez points out that all three are telling the truth as they know it, but are missing information.

He uses that analogy to describe misunderstandings of Islam.

As Muslims, we often do this. We have a certain understanding of Islam and keep a tunnel vision of what we think Islam is. What we know is Islam and everything else is not. And we don’t have appreciation for other points of view and accept the fact that we may be missing some important parts of the religion.

Because Islam is a comprehensive religion we need to know everything from its message. The more comprehensive our knowledge of it is, the better our understanding of it will be and of what goes on around us.

In the blog posts, Abdulazeez wrote that the companions of Muhammad were the “least superficial of the people” and had a comprehensive understanding of Islam. He wrote about how they had to make “sacrifices in their lives” and fight Jihad for the sake of Allah.

Abdulazeez’s blog posts were written three days before he executed his deadly rampage on Thursday.

Thursday marked the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month.
