Gun Shop blasted for its NAME stands up to ‘offended’ critics: ‘We won’t be changing . . . or moving’

A small-town Wisconsin gun shop is getting a lot of flak from local residents, but not because of what it’s selling; the controversy is over the gun shop’s name.

It’s called F-Bomb Ordnance, and that, as well as its website, f-bomb.net, are prominently displayed (and repeated) on each of the business’s windows.

Critics are taking their complaint to the St. Croix Falls Mayor Brian Blesi, claiming that the shop’s signs violate the city’s “nuisance ordinance,” according to TwinCities.com.

“Residents have expressed that our nuisance ordinance contains language that this graphic violates,” he told the paper.

About a dozen locals appeared at last week’s city council meeting to voice their complaints.

“The innuendo around it is enough that it really lowers the standards in this community,” resident Amy Klein said Friday. “I just think that we as a community need to hold ourselves to higher standards.”

F-Bomb’s owners disagree, and say they should be allowed to display its shop name just like any other downtown business.

“We don’t think it offends the morals and decency of the community,” co-owner Dr. Geoff Gorres said.

He emphasized that it wasn’t his intent to offend anyone.

“But we don’t control how other people are offended,” Gorres told the paper. “There are a lot of things that offend me in America, and I just have to deal with them.”

He said it’s his belief that he and his co-owners have “the moral high ground” on this issue.

“We won’t be changing our name,” said Gorres, an emergency room physician. “We won’t be moving. And I think it’s unlikely that we’ll be changing our signage in the near future.”

He added that he believes the real issue is the shop’s inventory, not its name. F-Bomb sells a lot of AR-15 carbines — inaccurately referred to as “assault rifles” — and the weapons are a favorite target of the left.

“If the name of our business was F-bomb Records, I don’t think that we’d be having this discussion,” Gorres said

Blesi said most of the calls he has received criticize the gun shop, but he has also received a number supporting the business name.
