Bad optics in Scott Walker’s new campaign logo are unfortunate

What’s in a campaign logo? For Scott Walker, beauty is in the eye — or eyeglasses — of the beholder. But some aren’t finding much beauty.

The Wisconsin governor is set to announce his bid for the Republican nomination for president on Monday, and made quite a show of unveiling his logo. Almost immediately, a Twitter user found a problem.

A nationally known eye wear company’s logo design shares more than a casual similarity with the Walker logo’s key element, a stylized American flag replacing the “E”.

Walker’s campaign broke the image into nine panels and posted one panel per day on Instagram starting July 2. The long, slow process culminated in an image that would look best on a 12-foot wall display.

Twitter users reacted to the logo gaffe with some gentle needling. After all, Walker isn’t the only logo-challenged candidate in this race.

A few alternate logo suggestions were undoubtedly rejected by Walker’s campaign team.
