Oregon state allows taxpayer-funded sex change for 15-year-olds WITHOUT parents’ consent

If you want your children to go behind your back to make crucial life decisions on their own, move to Oregon.

Teenagers as young as 15 have to get a parent’s permission for many things, but in Oregon they can now get a sex-change operation without a parent’s consent – and the state will even pay for it.

Parents in Oregon are just learning about a new policy, quietly adopted in January, that allows children 15 and older to consent to a sex-change operation through the state’s Medicaid program, the Oregon Health Plan, according to Fox News.

Despite the fact that 15-year-olds can’t drive, smoke cigarettes, purchase pornography, donate blood, go to a tanning salon, or even rent an R-rated movie, a group of unelected state bureaucrats decided they somehow have the maturity to alter their sex without parental consent.

Obviously, not everyone agrees.

Trans Rights

“It is trespassing on the hearts, the minds, the bodies of our children,” Lori Porter, of Parents’ Rights in Education, told Fox.

A spokeswoman for the Oregon Health Authority said the policy was adopted because 15 is the medical age of consent in the state, but critics say such a permanent and life-altering “treatment” should not exclude parents from the decision-making process.

“They’re our children, and for a decision, a life-altering decision like that to be done unbeknownst to a parent or guardian, it’s mind-boggling,” said Porter.

The policy was adopted with virtually no public debate by an unelected board known as the Health Evidence Review Commission, and will use Medicaid funds to cover everything from puberty-suppressing drugs to cross-sex hormonal therapy and “gender reassignment” surgery.

Dr. Jack Drescher, a member of the American Psychiatric Association, said the new policy will likely do more harm than good to teenagers who decide to take advantage of the taxpayer-funded sex changes.

“Children age 15 may not fully understand all the consequences of the procedures they are undergoing,” he said.

Obviously. That’s why 15-year-olds also are not allowed to get tattoos or cosmetic surgery without parental consent.

But according to some bureaucrats in Oregon, “transgender rights” are apparently more important than children or the rights of their parents.
